Integrated Design System | UX Research | UI Design | App Conceptualization

Second Thread

Each year, 80% of clothing created ends up in landfills. These textile wastes can take hundreds of years to decompose. To combat this issue, we introduce to you "Second Thread." A second-hand luxury shopping app that combines thrifting with creative upcycling. Second Thread sets out to combat fast fashion by giving used clothes a second chance.

Second Thread offers three services: luxurious, second-hand shopping, upcycled shopping, and personal alteration services from professional tailors.

Second Thread understands why people thrift. Because of this, Second Thread functions as an app that not only supports sustainability, but also promotes the individuality of the consumer. With more inclusive options and hand-made products, consumers can buy the most luxurious clothing pieces all while making a conscious contribution to
the environment.

Research

We started off our project by doing extensive research. Firstly, we individually compiled secondary research from scholarly sources to gain an understanding of the problem at a glance. We found that there is a renewed interest towards textile reuse, repair, and recycle initiatives.

From there we conducted a survey and four in-depth interviews. According to our survey, we found that people prefered thrifting because it saves money, allows for treasure hunting, supports sustainability, and promotes individuality. Based on our data affinization, we concluded that the app must facilitate a luxurious shopping experience, provide unique upcycled products buying, engage in ethical practices and moral standards, and
guarantee authenticity.

Interface Design

After extensive research, my team and I formed a design criterion, developed complex personas, established a cohesive visual identity for our brand, and conducted several rounds of rigorous user testing to lead us to our final interface design for our user-friendly app.

Landing Page Design

When considering our landing page, we decided  that we wanted something that would appeal to consumers on the surface level, while also driving traffic to the app. The landing page is not only there to sell the product, but to tell the brand’s story in order to facilitate that connection with the consumer.
